Role of Project Managers in Mobile Apps Development

It is very rightly said that ‘You don’t build the business, you build people and people build business for you’. A single hand or a single brain don’t make big brands, it’s a conjoined effort of multiple hands and brains works on mobile apps development.

In order to coordinate these multiple hands and brains, a leader is to be assigned. In school we have the principal, in sports, we call him the captain, for our nation, we call him president, in mobile application development services we call him project manager and in the home, we call her mom (Don’t laugh, probably you all will agree to this).

A project manager is the one who can make or break your business. There’s whole baggage of responsibilities to take the right decisions himself, to coordinate with clients, to manage client-employee coordination, to assign jobs internally, to take timely follow up, to accomplish the assigned task in a timely manner, report it to the boss and client and also to see the changes therein and report again.

Role of Project Managers in Mobile Apps Development

Take a deep breath, I know it all sounds like a stone has fallen on our head. But, there is no way out. Most of the business has climbed the ladder of success with innovative ideas that got the perfect execution through flawless management.

Under so much pressure, even then experienced project managers make some goof ups ending up with a huge loss of business and a painful regret in the heart. So, here are some such goof ups which project managers pay heed to and avoid.

1) Flexibility or rigidity?

As a project manager(PM) neither you are an automated machine nor are your employees working for you. Every person has a different working mechanism and approaches towards them should also be different as well. You have the burden on your shoulder, taking a chill pill about the deadlines and keeping yours and your worker’s time idle is no way to work.

On the contrary, taking into account every microsecond and report of work done or time wasted in those microseconds is also not how you should work.

The first situation will be lack of discipline and the second one will frustrate the employees and snatch away their willingness and likability towards work. When the deadlines are closer, be stringent with the working hours and when the pressure is less, let them be a mess.

There are 2.96 Million apps in Google Play store and you don’t want a poorly developed app to hit the store and fail due to excessive work pressure.

If you are one of the top mobile application development company USA and want to maintain that position, hand over a feedback form and ask the employees to feed it anonymously to know what’s cooking in their mind and if there is some issue, sort it out. Keep the following question in the questionnaire.

  • How was the communication flow?
  • How was the approach of the project manager towards the project and its updates?
  • Was the project manager giving the necessary details in time and not asking you to fetch it yourself?

2) Misleading communication

Getting the right details from the client, understanding the needs, and delivering it to the developers precisely is what a project manager is bound to do.

Being available to speak and discuss with and serve with all the details asked is under the obligation of project managers. Bad response or providing vague project details are also goof-ups that are strictly not allowed on the PMs part.

Of course, you don’t have to act like a primary teacher and explain project requirements minutely but giving them all they want to accomplish the project at the right time and in the right way is a must.

If necessary, also include keeping the team members in the loop while having a conversation about the project with clients.

3) Deadly deadline

A project manager should have the vision of the entire team’s workload, the work assigned individually, a number of ongoing projects, and the capability to take and complete the new project on a feasible time.

Not being able to manage taken projects and pushing the deadlines time and again would be a black spot on the reputation of the company.

Pushing the employees with the work they can’t handle is also not a way out to meet the deadline. Also, choosing a deadline that is impossible to meet is also bad on the part of the project manager.

Conclusion

Project managers have a huge responsibility on their shoulders. If they make blunders, it can affect the relationship with clients, the output, and the faith of the entire team. An average team with a great project manager can deliver an outstanding output.

But, it is difficult to deliver good output with a bad project manager with a good team. A good mobile apps development team needs a project manager to guide, solve issues, assign tasks, and check up on the assigned tasks before it is sent to the clients. They play a significant role in the entire process.
